Mooroolbark 1 vs. 0 Southern Suburbs

After an unfortunate loss last week, the barker girls were eager to get some points on the board.  This Sunday we were facing a team we had not played before, Southern Suburbs.  Being our first home game of the season a loss was not an option. The Barker girls started on the move and what a difference it made playing at home.  With the loss of our sweeper Amber (Fish), Courtney and Nat did a remarkable job at deterring the attacking players, along with the help of Vinny and her never give up attitude our keeper Maggie also had a great game.  Nikki MB played a cracker match again with too many shots at scoring to mention. Having possession most of the match was a large feat for the Barker Girls. Shots fired one after the other from Mel, Nikki C, Amy, and Nat, but yet the girls were still to get on the board, until our youngest player Simone received a great ball from Nat to score our first goal of the game and the season. An excellent team result and it was so satisfying to see each player put in such a marvelous effort. This is only the beginning of a most promising season from the Barker Girls.

Mooroolbark 0 vs. 3 Knox United

It was a hard day for the girls at [insert location], after a slow nervous start Mooroolbark momentum built. A new look team was with some familiar faces returning to the fold was offset by a dubious hand ball in the box during 29th minute.  Knox decisively went one nil up luckily scoring from the penalty after the save was narrowly missed by a dedicated diving Margaret.  3 minutes later Knox struck again from a strike outside the box after Mooroolbark failed to move the ball out of the defensive half.  Second half Mooroolbark came out looking like a team that had played together forever determined to turn the game around. After a tough opening to the half Mooroolbark was awarded a penalty after a Knox defender handled the ball in the box. A solid strike by Nikki was deflected by the Knox keeper and a the follow up shot by Nikki found its way into the keepers hands.  15 minutes later a lapse in Mooroolbark’s defenses saw Knox go 3-0 a head.
